SciFi and Fantasy Art: A Test of Skill

An ambitious project on my part( 24 in. x 36 in. ). First oil class and I whip this thing out all penciled and ready to go, while everyone else is staring at bowls of fruit and drapes. It took me 6 months on and off, and it was a real test of my skill just to finish. completed in 1991....notice the dog in her lap.....and the horns....

Good first oil, prefer acrylics myself. It takes a lot of dedication to keep going back to the same image over such a long period of time, espcialy on your first try with a new media, I congragulate you. Back in 1991 I was generaly too lazy to finnish big images like this and I'd just started with oils around that time too.

This is brilliant! Those six months really paid off. The color scheme is so unique, almost photographic quality. I like all the textures and the use of black on black on black.

I like the old-style triangular composition it really draws your eye to the main figure, I'd say six months well-spent.

Hmmm--the concept of this painting is relatively simple, yet executed very well, *chuckling suddenly* And Im still doin drapery. Actually, more into still life, cause bowls of fruit rot too quickly, >^=^< Flowers are cool though, hee. You've handled the metal really really well, for your first oil painting (arent prelims great?) Have you tried painting patterned drapery yet?? =) Excellently done!

I love the way that her pose is so relaxed and at ease. And yet her head has this intense thought process look to it. This pic inspired a knew char I have. She's a demon soceress, but she's trying to be good. I don't know If you'd take that as a compliment or not but I think that it is. An artist usually feels pride when there artwork is inspirational. Bring more up soon.

Wow. Real oil paint? Gods... I'm very impressed. I love the velvety look you got on the draperies, and the cool metallic glint of her armour. Very nicely done!
