SciFi and Fantasy Art: A Gentle Death

My first attempt at Art Nouveau, in the style of all my pieces these days, I want to dedicate this. This one is to Ursula Vernon, who doesn't know I exist, but who had offered me so much inspiration through the years, Even before I was part of Elfwood, and as much as I it might bite on her end, I'm glad she's back on Elfwood, because I'm selfish.

I'm glad if I've been some humble influence at any point--and now, let me thank you for adding to the grim Art Nouveau in the woods! I love the style, and I'm always delighted to see a darker theme done with it than the standard Mucha-esque pastoralisms. May I ask how exactly you went about doing the background? I've developed a process for it by trial and error, and it still takes most of an eternity...I'm curious as to how other people set up those kinds of frame effects.
