SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Oracle

The woman in this picture is a seer; an oracle. She can use the orb she rests her hand on to see into the future, the past, into the souls of men. She has no face, though. Her identity lies in her abilities, which makes her a sort of tragic figure, despite her power.

This is absolutely wonderful. You really should try adding a face though. While you may be worried that it would ruin such a beautiful picture, it is definatly something you should not be afraid of. Since you allready have it scanned in it's present state, print out a really high dpi copy and try a face on that. If you like the result, scan it in and tah-dah! you have your pic with no risk to the original art.

Uh, I seem to notice the artist used the phrase, "She has no face" not, "I haven't done the face yet" or something similar. Perhaps she's not -supposed- to have a face. The description of the character gave me that impression. And besides, why does she have to have one? This picture is beautiful and finished as is. I think it looks as complete as any picture of a person with a face. The shading is wonderful, too. Nice work.

Just a thought... My mother had done a pair of oil paintings of Life and Death, anthropomorphic personifications, that is. But she didn't want them looking too human, so she only hinted of eyes, nose, and mouth. It works quite well (I'll try to take pictures later, if you'd like to see it) when given the option of no face or face. Mere lines in place of the features. Works wonders. But like I said, just a thought. Use it or toss it. No worries.

*stunned* I love it I love it I love it! The dress is very gorgeous, I love how it conforms with the structure of the body. Very nice details, and I've always liked to have people with no faces, it gives them a very...sad (not depressing) yes...slum, flat expression, in my opinion. Good Job!
