Crystal is a sarcastic lil witch with a sharp tongue and a quick wit. She is thoroughly in love with a man who was born and raised in a town called Normal--concluding that it is indeed probable that opposites attract.

I remember opening this gallery 'bout 6 years ago at the ripe age of 16 with stars in my eyes and dreams of internet stardom over my disproportioned black and white linework. Now I am 22 and entering my final year as an art student at Illinois State University. I've dabbled in a fair amount of mediums and scampered here n' there and feel I've come out the better for it. I can say this for myself: the older I get the less certain I know of where I am going. I am quite happy with the opportunities that I have been presented with, as well as the opportunities and advantages that are being offered me in my last year at ISU.

While I am a sculpture major officially, I will never be as satisfied with my more dimensional work as I am with my newfound passion of lithography. I love to sculpt and work with my hands because it seems to me to be so much more direct than drawing or other mark-making. It is so much easier to craft something that is really there--than to create an illusion to fool the eye into believing something that was never there. I think that I am less favoring of my sculpture because it is so much harder to get away with a fantasy scene in sculpture in a university setting. While no part of the art department particularily invites fantasy or fantastical images, it seems that lithography, at least, does not strive to repel them when well defended.

My current theme is to re-hash fairytales and mythologies. I like to switch cultures or the dominance of characters. As such, my work tends to overly-confuse unless accompanied by extensive explanation. I have been encouraged (and quite agree) that my next steps in lithography should include the ability to explain my intent within the image. I feel that its quite the challange. Time will tell whether I am to be successful at that or not.

Welcome to Elfwood Crystal. Many of artist including myself find the human form to be the most difficult subject matter to draw. You see the human body is made up of so many different muscles that expands and contracts, and to make matters worse every human being is different to one another(shapes), not to mention, expressions and body language. It takes many years for most of us to learn to be comfortable when it somes to drawing the human form, so don't be discourage, just practice hard. However from the looks of things, your are starting to understand already. It well be interesting to see what you can produce in the future2

:-) Crystal Lynn LaBranche replies: "Its not nice to lie you know! *L* There is no way that you find it hard to draw human form!! I went to your gallery and had to pick my jaw off the floor....*snorts* You have got to stop being so modest...give me hope!--cll"

crystal, a lot of people are afraid to draw faces, because they are hard. You seem to exhibit a rare talent of being able to capture features. keep it up. you have a good thing going

:-) Crystal Lynn LaBranche replies: "thanks....I went to your gallery and decided instantly that you knew whet you were talking about....I don't think that I will ever achieve your level of facial expression, but I'll keep trying!--cll"

Hi! I just wanted to say that your drawing are so nice!I wonder how artists make those fantasic drawings or paintings like your drawings.

:-) Crystal Lynn LaBranche replies: "Thank you very much Maha but I think you give me too much praise!! I am very flattered that you consider my drawings good, and the best response to that that I can give is to try my best to make future drawings better so that eventually I may actually deserve your kind words. 2 --cll"

I like your 'Stars in the forest canopy' best. But you shadow lover has anything that caught my eye as well. Nice work. Keep it on! (And you're being a pagan I better don't mention that I nearly became a reverend!)

:-) Crystal Lynn LaBranche replies: "2 On my path, I believe that there is no "one true way." I believe that everyone has a right to choose their own religion, and if one fits you, then it is the right one. I have nothing against any religion as long as it does not make a point to hurt living creatures, or tries to force itself on others. I was raised Roman Catholic and just wasn't compatable with it. I myself feel no bitterness towards my former religion, and truly wish that someday, all religions will be able to peacefully cooperate with eachother, even if they have certain differing views. --cll"

Ooooh! I'm pagan! surprisingly, you don't meet too many Witches on this site...not that that's a bad thing; I just expected different. I'm more interested in the spiritual aspect of Wicca, though the magick interests me greatly *wips out her wand*

    Nice talking to you!
