SciFi and Fantasy Art: Background for A new Picture

This is the backgroung i'm doing for a pic I'm working on. I read Ursula Vernon's most excellent FARP article on computer painting, and now I'm trying to use what I learned. Of course, I'm doing this with a mouse and Photoshop, so maybe I didn't learn enough. Anyway, I'll work on the figures tomorrow.

very good drawing! It reminds me of the coloroverlay work of Richard Corben (the fact that the shadows define the shapes of the ruines and such). ever checked out his work?

Great job on all the shadows, it seems you paid close attention to trying to keep the anles right. Wow, if this is just background, what's going to be the main focus? Huh?! I wanna know! Can't wait to see the completed version, cuz this is awesome by itself.
I'm still working on what to put here, but once it's complete, you'll be the first to know.

Ooh, leave the green as it is! Its beautiful emerald reminds me of Ireland. And I'm a sucker for skies like that--this is gorgeous!
I love green myself, and Ireland is nice too. We don't actually get skies like that here in Tacoma, but I remember them well from my years in Kansas.

Other than the hills sort of disappearing into the sky, I think it's an awesome piece. The quality of light is fantastic.

:-) D. Brent O'Gara replies: "Yeah, this was never finished, so the hills are just fuzzy."

I really like this picture. The love the colors in the sky and I love the detail you made with the building and the mountains. Lovely picture.

:-) D. Brent O'Gara replies: "Thanks, the sky was fun to make, and I zoomed way it to make all the little buildings. I'm glad you like it."

You should put a dragon in this pic. It would look brill

:-) D. Brent O'Gara replies: "I actually made it to be the backdrop of a picture of two wyverns chasing a much larger dragon away from their nest. It was inspired by a couple of sparrows I watched chase a huge crow that had been loitering around their nest. The sparrows were tiny, but the crow just could not get a handle on them, and eventually had to leave."
