SciFi and Fantasy Art: Nodlk in Ruins

The war between Nodlk and UnderKeep ground along for more than twelve millenia, with neither side able to achieve complete victory.  Both nations had their chief cities razed several times, and at one point Nodlk occupied UnderKeep for six hundred years.  In the end, the superior magic of UnderKeep allowed their mages to re-awaken the long-dormant volcano that had created the lava tubes that Nodlk was built inside.  The initial blast destroyed the main bridge from Nodlk to the outside world, collapsing much of the tube wall at the same time.  Blinded by the sunlight streaming into their once stygian kindom, hundreds of Nodlkians attempting to escape across the bridge failed to see that it had been destroyed, and ran right off the edge.  The bards of UnderKeep wrote a whole cycle of (highly popular) songs based on the screams of the Nodlkians as they fell and burned in the river of fire.

Historical note:  Li'Norra (Darkness and Light, Darkness Enslaved) participated in the destruction of Nodlk as a shield bearer for OverMage Moran'Terloth, who later helped her secure permission for her ill-fated expedition to the upper realm.

I really like this, the colors are amazing, it's so hard to use a wide pallet like this and have it come off without being too much, but this is well balanced. What medium is it?

Wow! I love the effect of the lava and the way the light streams in. 10 out of 10. Way better than i could manage. 2
