SciFi and Fantasy Art: Calan And The Shadowy Stranger

'...In front of him the largest horse Calan had ever seen stood with its breath steaming in the air. The horse was pitch black except for its eyes, which seemed like two orbs of glowing red glass. The presence of the horse frightened Calan, but not as much as what sat astride it. It was a man huddled in clothes as foreboding as the horse. He wore black trousers, black riding boots, and a black cloak that covered almost his entire body. Calan caught a glimpse of a scabbard and could tell immediately that the sword within was extremely heavy. The stranger wore his cloak's hood, which enshrouded his entire face in darkness. Two glints of light peered out at Calan from the shadows...'

THE HOUSE OF KINGS Part One: The Foundations Of Destiny

A momental event in my book, when Calan meets the Shadowy Stranger. I know, the horse's head is too big and its legs are all wrong, but I'm not that good at drawing animals, it's a sketch to fix the important scene in my mind, that's all.

hehehehehe I get first comment! *happy dance*This is a wonderful piece! I love the detail you put into it. It look very realistic. My eyes keeping getting drawn to the figure on the horse. It's just so mysterious. Love it! Keep up the good work!

the horse in this pic looks small..it also looks like a camel with straight legs..the hind end is way too low and the neck is too straight..not enough arch..also..if he is suppopsed to be a large horse..you could have gotten the human to horse scale right..i have a smaller horse..and my legs dont hang like that....even if this dude is dupposed to be big..horses can get huge...a horse 6 feet at the shoulder is not unheard of and is in fact quite common in larger breeds..this horse looks like it is about 15hh..wich is normal for a horse..but not at all large...and..the guy on the horse..would have to be about 8 feet for his legs to drag like that...on a small horse...so..if you wish for your horse to look large..put him in proportion to his rider and the other things in the drawing...and please..put him in proportion to himself..the horse in this drawing looks like he would have a hard tim walkin much less moving a rider

In other words this pic sux. He he. You're right there. It's only up here because I don't touch my Elfwood site at all since I'm not an artist but a writer. But you could have left an e-mail address or something. You didn't even leave your name! How rude. Oh well. Thank you for your comments *myself*

Nice scene. I like the way the audiences were drawn into it, right to the horse and the guy. Cool.

I think most of your proportion issues would be solved if you broadened the horses chest, he barely has one right now. Adding to that would help, as then the head and neck would be in proportion. Its a very well thought out scene though, the composition is very good.
