SciFi and Fantasy Art: Watchful Eye

This is Comet, in his griffin form. Comet was the King of Sovereigns, part of a tribe of people whose musical voices attract magics. The sword here was his downfall; it was considered to be a great artifact by many kingdoms. It was discovered by a group of monks who stumbled upon it when their monastery’s well was discovered to be the mouth of a cave in ancient times. Overcome by greed for the sword, Comet killed all the monks to obtain it, and once it was in his possession, he was destined to become part griffin, sometimes taking the form of the mystical beast, forced to guard the sword for the rest of his now magically lengthened days. When his crime was learned, the Sovereign people exiled Comet to a far away land, where they hoped he would never threaten anyone who came close to his precious sword. And there he is now, sometimes taking the form of a man and appearing to nearby countries asking for a place to spend the night, longing to be again with other beings.
