SciFi and Fantasy Art: Unicorn

Eee. I got on a Unicorn-high. I know they aren't actually jus' horses with horns an' so on bu' I think the horse versions are actually very elegant and I also wanted to try a new coloration. I know some of the anatomy is off but I'm not that great with horses and this was just to mess around with colors. ^_^ Hope you enjoy. (June 13th, 2001)

I love the colours! It doesn't seem like a horse even if you don't look at the horn.. it's good.

I love the dappling and the tail especially! One thing bothers me though, the lower back legs. They angle, below the hocks should be straight up and down, or almost.

I love how you drew this! I will admit, the rear legs and all look a little small for the unicorn, but I like it. It doesn't quite remind me of the picture i have in my room, but I sat here and stared at that picture in my room and tried to draw it and it turned out pretty badly, so yeah.

If this was primarily a color study, I'd say you did very well. It's a very nice coat color. I like the tail, too.

I have been wandering trough your gallery, I think you do amazing things with colours, for you have this peculiar ability I envy so much: computer colouring skills.
Awesome work, really.

You're issue on equine anatomy isn't too bad. You've got most of the bone structure correct but hey, not all horses are always conformationally correct, am I right? As a horse-fanatic myself, I want to tell you I admire how you can create a piece such as this and make it seem almost realistic. I only suggest two things for your future equestrian artwork; 1 - Think of bone structure, would the animal be comfortable in the way it stands? 2 - For some reason, from the chest and girth area down, it resembles a hide draped on a skeleton... reminds me of droopiness... lol. But overall, I think this was a very well done piece of work! Perfect placing of the horn on the head, though it does look nice being pointed sky-ward like that, and the mane looks very natural. Good job!
