SciFi and Fantasy Art: Likeshine

This is an image of Likeshine for the LiveJournal Gryphon Art Exchange. The picture depicts Likeshine as she sits on the dried-out savannah that is the home of both the lion and the martial eagle, the creatures of which her gryphonic form is composed. In the background the clouds of a storm are rising above the horizon as the sun slowly sets, and she tenses up at the scent of rain and spreads her wings in eager anticipation of the coming downpour.

In truth, the whole thing was one giant experiment. Except for the odd scribble, I’ve actually never done computer colouring before, nor in such a grand scale, so I had to chance my luck and hope for the best when I sat down in front of the screen. Everything, even the initial sketch, was made digitally, which is also a first for me, and then I had a greatly amusing time experimenting with the light, the background, the textures, the pose, just about everything. I realise that Likeshine’s posture might seem a bit stiff, but I didn’t dare add too much motion to my image, considering how little experience I have with drawing such. After all, I have never attended a single art class in my life, and I suppose that I am more or less autodidactic when it comes to drawing.

Its green...Ummm...Yeah

:-) Cecilie Larsen replies: "Yes, Likeshine is a green gryphon. That’s how she looks, that’s who she is. Personally, I rather like the colour. All green gryphons are cool gryphons in my experience. ;} ~Cecilie/Taran. "

Having looked at the whole gallery, I think this my favorite. It is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know what medium you are using for these pics (the icy gryph, the aerobatic gryph), but it is amazing. I like the eagle chosen for the sevannah of Africa and the composition in this piece. The feather and grass textures are especially nice. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!

Being honest here: I’m tired of seeing Likeshine in various Elfwood galleries.

I think it’s lovely, personally. The green gryphon is just fine, and highly creative!!!!
