With his smirk and the asymmetrical positioning of his eyebrows there is another way to interpret his facial expression. He could be trying to cheer her up, OR he could be thinking "Yes, she relies on her big, strong protector-man." That's a line from a skit I saw years ago, but that picture just reminded me of it.
