| 16 Dec 2002 | Kerstin Holzknecht a.k.a. 'Khyrsanth' <khyrsanth@d | Bloody scanners i also hate it that they combined with jpg kill some details. This is really a wonderful pencilwork, great shading and oooohhh the hair! This is a great portrait, wish i could draw hooomans nearly as good *grins* but my claws just seem to not want to draw them Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Well, perhaps you could get your claws temporarily trimmed and then give it a shot. ;o) Thanks for your kind words. But I can't draw things like this without a photo reference, either, which is why I used a photo of myself that my husband took. ;o)" | |
| 8 Jan 2003 | William Li | There is nothing wrong with using photo reference. The face seems a bit blurry compared to the clearness of the hair though. The detail is impressive, and especially the fabric is very well done. Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Thanks, William! The fabric was fun, after I got over my initial terror of it. When I realized it was actually going to turn out halfway decent, I decided I could afford not to stress about it. ;o)I think the blurriness of the face is a result of the scan. The original is a lot more detailed. Silly scanner." | |
| 22 Jan 2003 | Tarah D. Willett | Wow! This is fabulous! Awesome detail work, I just love the hair and the fabric. Thanks for visiting my page, and God bless you!~ Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Thanks for your kind words, Tarah. I'm very glad I stumbled across your gallery, and I appreciate your returning the visit! ;o)" | |
| 2 Apr 2003 | Karl 'Angel' Lines | Dont i know all too well about scanners and bloody jpegs, still its left your skill largely untouched, great work Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Thanks, Angel! ;o) I guess I'm lucky to have gotten a scan of it at all. Shortly after I scanned this, my kitty used the printer to bludgeon the scanner to death. And I don't think a digital photo would have picked up anything of this pic. ;o)" | |
| 25 Oct 2003 | Maisha 'Elenwyn' Foster-O'Neal | oh gods the hair must have taken ages! Very cool. Peace out, ~*Elenwyn*~ | |
| 5 Nov 2003 | Kelly M. Fretwell | Wow...the hair...HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! | |
| 31 Dec 2003 | Patricia Lynn Middleton | Did I mention I have this hanging in my kitchen? It reminds me of you everyday. I'm praying for you. | |
| 6 Oct 2004 | John Johnson | Very nice work Courtney, I like your gallery, and what is the difference whether you use photo reference or not, you are talented. Like you said some where else even the greats used live models and some of the best sstill do. It's the imagination you put in to the actual piece that makes it more than just a drawing of a photo. Keep up the good work. I also saw Marts picture of you, very nice work that mort does. Hehe he even used a photo reference for that so there.
God Bless John | |
| 13 Apr 2005 | SisterWitch | you do such lovely art, the hair on this one looks so real keep up the good work. You are one of my favorite elf wood artists. | |
| 7 Dec 2005 | Sarah Williamson | She's beautiful, are you really that pretty? I love the hair it is fantastic, curly hair is cool. her face with the leaf hanging down is really well drawn. You put a lot of detail in this, good job it is great! Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Sarah, don't you know that most artists idealize their self-portraits? ;o) There's a photo of me on my main page--I'll let you be the judge as to whether or not my self-portrait is accurate. *grin* Thanks for commenting on this one--it was fairly difficult, and it's one of my personal favorites." | |
