SciFi and Fantasy Art: Sorrow and Joy

Either grieving or rejoicing, i'm uncertain as to what this female gargoyle is doing. She was a quick sketch that turned out marvelous! Very powerful, and most of all...real looking! Her face...the proportions...one of my best to date!

Cool sketch, the anatomy is fairly good but I can see some inconsistencies and lacking muscle definition. Work on that 12

she could be looking for her chewing gum - or a lost contact lense - or possibly reading something someone scrawled in the cement of a sidewalk while it was still wet - something mysterious that people walking by every day give little thought to or notice of - but which speaks volumes about a condition or situation she sees as worthy of and possibly requiring her attention ... ~12

I would love to see this in color or in a less sketchy manner. The way the picture is cropped right now, with her head popping out of the page... It deserves a remake. Oh crap I can't believe I'm saying this, I hardly every finish my sketches. Don't listen to me, I'm such a hypocrite.

Doesn't it just drive you buggy when the really quick sketches turn out to be some of your best work? If you go to college for an art degree, your instructors will harp and harp about making loose work ("one more time, with FEELING!" --blech!) as opposed to tight, finished drawings. Drove me to distraction. I ended up doing one tight drawing/illustration for every two or three loose, thrown-together P.O.S. that they seemed to like so much. Okay, it isn't QUITE as bad as I make it out to be, but it's still irritating if you're into the details.

nice bur it loooks unfinishes (which is obvious). Id take the next step and add some more detailing. Also the chest ia a little screwy but the wings, horns, and tail are nice touches. It'd be nice to see its face though i realize its for dramatic effect. 7 out of 10
