SciFi and Fantasy Art: Male Satyr

*GASP* I drew a MAN! Hehe. A man showing off his, uhm, masculinity, in best satyr fashion. I liked this one too well to leave it off, but I censored it for the sake of the viewing public, most of whom are not as shameless as I.

I'm impressed someone actually drew a male satyr, but am saddened you felt the need to censor it8 Why? well coz Satyr's are pretty shameless, thats there thing! If you can have naked statues and naked female satyr's everwhere I figure as an artist you shouldnt feel responsible to change what you wanted to draw. Anyway I like your work and support your artistic freedom2

Is it just me, or aren't all satyrs male? As I understand it, satyrs are the male counterparts of nymphs, and a female satyr type thing would be a faun. The pic's awesome, so don't let my mythology hang up get you down, I wanted to comment.

Jp is right a femal satyre is actually a Dryad or a nymph since the two have been confused through out history

Like JP and Matthew are saying are correct. Satyrs are male and their counterparts are Dryards (a type of woodland nymph) or human women (who are repulsed by them]

HOWEVER

Fauns are NOT female counterparts. Through Mythology and most of history they are also male with their own counterparts being other nymphs.

Its today's modern time RPG players, authors and artists have made Fauns accessible to both sexes in making them male as well as female. In some on-line games of RP (role-play) the females are sometimes called Fauna after the Goddess Fauna who was wife to the God Faunus who the other Faun followed after.
