SciFi and Fantasy Art: Sara Weaver

This is my end of a character exchange with Laura Rhoades-Stovall I thought her bad-ass cowgirl, Sara Weaver, looked like a mighty cool character.

I like the picture and this may be a stupid question but is that Sara Weaver from Ruby Ridge? And if it is what does she actually look like?

:-) Patrick R. Derksen replies: "I looked into your story about Ruby Ridge. This character is not my creation, so I can't say that the name is not related in some way. But the character herself is an RPG character that Laura created. So I guess the answer to your question is "no." Thanks for commenting!"

Bad-ass is a good term. And you convey such well. I love your taste for backrounds, your 'mood' or setting. It's well conjured and displayed. However, if you don't mind a crit, may I?
I've viewed a few of your pictures already (and have every intention is seeing them all) but what I have noticed thus far is the slight flaws. Proportions, mostly. Your attention to detail is unparalleled, hence my concern. Have you tried basic form yet? You might want to. It'll fix such imperfections is alignment, frame. Though, I'll admit--you do have a tendency to lose detail and have a bit more to do in the way of clean-up. You might wanna give it a try.
Nonetheless, beautiful.

2 Patrick R. Derksen replies: "Thanks for the insightful comments. I have done very few basic form studies, reasons being
1) I never took art classes so I just draw what I see
2)I don't draw very often so I just go for the final product before the drawing mood dissapears
3) I am woefully inadequate *begins sobbing*
Seriously, thanks so much. I'll attempt to pull out my sketch book and draw basic forms. "

[replying to above comment] You have the makings of a great artist. Most people study forms before they learn to 'see'. That you can already see what's really there is really quite special. I bet if you did take some classes you'd be downright magnificent! Well thankyou! Really though, I'm just too lazy to draw all those lines and circles. I learned the trick of looking at the negative space to help with proportions and placement. (Wow, that sounded all professional and stuff.)

She does look cool. ^^ Nice dark outlines and cool shading.

Better anatomy and proportions on this one, and you have managed to capture something both attractive and dangerous in her expression. Well done.

Very cool, and I agree with the commenter above me that you did very good with the anatomy and proportions wich acording to me can be rather tricky! Good work.
