SciFi and Fantasy Art: Michael, the Archangel.

Michael makes a cameo-appearance in my story, so I drew him for the hell of it. The whole 'dirty-bloody wings' thing became real popular thing to do with angels after PROPHECY, so I did it with him too (he IS God's favorite soldier, for pete's sake). I also gave him a flaming sword, which derrives from the Cherubim that drove Adam and Eve from Paradise. The symbols on his body are real, as I try to accomplish with all of my angels. Most of them are hebrew/angelic script translations of the name Michael and all of his titles, although the ribbons are a proverb verse in Angelic script. The costume was based on rennaissance depictions of Angels, who copied that oh-so-christian greek look, but I also tried to pull styles from Judaic and Islamic art. The wings are big because- Well... wings look cool when they appear functional!

And islamic angels are erm no gender made from pure light and angels that remove souls from sinners have giant claws too hook the souls but if your good then they gently lift your soul. Itd be awseome if you did one!

30 Jul 2007	Anonymous	Loading... I'm not sure if Michael is right or left handed, but this picture has his sword in his left hand, as well as the sheilth on his left side. When you pull out a sword the oposite side that the sheilth is on is the hand that you hold the sword with. Then again he could have switched the hand he's holding the sword with...
