SciFi and Fantasy Art: City Gate

I've never been real good at drawing backgrounds, so I started trying to draw a stone arch. That arch eventually turned into a wall with the arch in it. Then I drew the path up to it. Buildings started growing on the other side of it. Before I knew it, I had the gate to a city before me. I still could've done a better job, had I intended to do that from the beginning. I realize it isn't practical -- no merchant wagon is going to fit through that little archway. Someday I'll do a real landscape.

It could be a pedestrian's gate. I looked at it and thought "why can't I draw like this?" Keep it up! Amy A. Carlstrom replies: "Awww, shucks. Maybe the scanner is making the drawing look better than it really is. I swear, I didn't spend that much time on this one, I never thought it was that great. LoL"

And about that wagon thing, I think most city walls had many gates, bigger and smaller ones. Amy A. Carlstrom replies: "That's true, about the different size gates. I suppose it simply wasn't what I was envisioning when I sketched it out, even though it still works as-is. Thanks for the feedback. "
