SciFi and Fantasy Art: Dragon #02

This is a picture of a dragon who lives underwater, most likely known as a water serpent. I should have worked on this piece a little bit longer, bringing out the head more, but I decided to stop and turn the picture in for a drawing class assignment. The thing I tried to experiment most on was the water, even though it looks more like it should be ice. I tried, and even though it doesn't look much like water, I still approved of it...and water is still a hard thing to draw for me. (^-^)! This was done in pecil and colored pencil.

I really love the soft colours, the pattern on its skin, and the fact that it has no eyes. That's really neat. Tim, if you want a bit of critique I'd say that the neck looks a little flat, rather than well-rounded like the tail.
I like it!

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Yea, that's tru, the neck does look flat. I'll take your critique into consideration. With that, I should really spend a lot more time on my works... Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"

This sure was attention brabbing. Though the splash of the water looks a bit rigit, but who am I to talk? Great work!

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Yea, I gotta work on that. Water isn't one of my strong points, so all the more reason to practice on it, heheh. Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"

Wow, i really like it. Water is always hard to draw for me. Its hard to make it look like water and not just a level plane of land, especially since i dont use color. I just like to use pencils and graphite. Anyways, great job

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Yea. The natural elements are always hard to draw with or without color, just takes practice I guess, heheh. Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"

Hello there! Finally came here to give you some comments. Sorry for the delay, though.

Well, first of all.. I like the use of soft colors. It's also refreshing to see a dragon with more "realistic" colors. I was getting sick of all those red and blue dragons. Those colors just don't seem to be good for beasts that live freely in nature, right? I like realistic fantasy. Brown colors are way better for hiding than neonblue, for example.

Yea, the water looks like ice, but it goes fine by me, since I can't draw even ice. And my water looks like blue grass. Oh yes, that bad! ^^;;

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Heheh. Nah, that's aight. Yea, I like to do realism from time to time. I've been influenced by so many styles that I incorporate them in one way or another. Realistic drawings are one of my favorites, but I like to draw cartoons and other things, too. Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"

Hey again... I can't get over how much I love this picture. The water looks so real and like its splashing around! You are so talented!
.Louis.

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Thanx (^-^)!"

AHA! You ARE Vietnamese! *high five*

Were you born in Vietnam? I sure wasn't, lol.

ANYWAY.... love the colours. I do not ahve the patience to colour with pencil crayon... lazy bum I am.

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Nah, I was born here, in the U.S. And yea, I am Vietnamese! I know... coloring takes so much patience, practice, and time... Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"

OoO Yaugh! *ego dies* XoX
My only observation is that the body seems a little skinny down towards the water. Maybe it's just the angle, but... nnh. It's really good, anyways.

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Ah, it could be both, heheh. Me and my intention to make everything in a weird angle... Proportions can really get screwed that way, heheh. Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"

To me, it looks like he's laughing and playing in the water by clapping his flippers together..sorry o.O don't know if you were going for mean and fierce with this one, but I think he looks cute!
I share your pain when it comes to drawing water, I can never get it to look right -_- but I think you did a great job on it in this pic.

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "Ah, that's alright. Everyone has his or her own perception of what a drawing is supposed to represent.
And yes, I do need to practice drawing the natural elements more often, heheh. Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"

This is the sorta thing in kingkong!-or the lost worlds....

:-) Tim H. Nguyen replies: "This drawing is pretty old compared to the new King Kong movie that's out right now, but I know what you mean. Thanx for the comment (^-^)!"
