SciFi and Fantasy Art: Old Picture but Cute Nonetheless...

This sketch is quite literally two or three years old, making the proportions and whatnot rather terrible (hey, I was 14, can't blame me for failing at life :P). Regardless of the aforementioned factor, I still love this picture for some reason. It features my two main characters in a scene which I think I've since decided not to add, but I still love it to death. They're sitting up on the battlements of a castle being depressed together... awww, how sweet... Remind me not to go through old sketchbooks. Ever.

I was just wondering, what kind of pencil and method did you use for this? I like the shading the most, like in the sky and on the wall. The characters are cute too!
