| 27 Jul 2001 | adam warlock | great job with the shadows... uh... from Dhak's expression, I'm staying FAR away!! *runs* | |
| 30 Jan 2002 | Veronika Bergkvist | I think both spider and drow looks great, but to me she doesn't really look like his queen. The way he's holding his hand on her makes it look more like he's the master and she's just a pet. He doesn't seem to respect her the way he would if she was the master. But what do I know about drow, maybe they don't respect their royalty... The picture look very good in any way. | |
| 9 Apr 2002 | Jennifer Leigh Wilson | Awesome, I came upon this in the random pike and I had to look at the rest of your stuff. ^_^ | |
| 15 Jul 2002 | Maya R. Hirschman | Ahhh, for once, a male pictured who isn't some surface loving Lolth hating rogue. *cheer* There need to be more 'good' Drow males, traditional and whatnot. People just don't realise that there's power in serving Lolth, even for a male. | |
| 23 Aug 2002 | Kimberly Platt | Oh god this pic rules the world.. I love the design for the male drow and the white spider.^^ | |
| 31 Oct 2002 | Junpei | Wow...Ultimately the coolest pic ive seen today. Drows are my favorite race too , along w/ halflings | |
| 9 Nov 2002 | Drizzt-fan | I love drow too and i love this pic one of the best ive seen | |
| 12 Mar 2004 | Simi Landau *Muffin Queen* | Amazing...I love the drow, though the spider creeps the flip outta me. ~Muffin Queen | |
| 26 Jun 2004 | Trix | Elfwood artist: Veronika Bergkvist you are correct. If this drow was brought up in an Underdark City, then he would have been brought up to respect females and spiders. "He" is treating the spider as if it is a companion or a summoned creature of no value. | |
| 15 Aug 2005 | Dinin Zolond | Just for a clarification, allow me explain the relationship of Queen and Dhak since I was after all, the DM of this character. During Dhak's time in the city Academy, while he was learning his sorcery, he was using the cantrip Spider for practice. Through trial and error, he finally found one that was very dominate. A female, ghost spiderling, from an egg clutch that just hatched near a lich lair somewhere in the Underdark. Since ghost spiders are mentioned to be found around lich lairs in the 1st ed. AD&D book Lords of Darkness, the spider's description came close to one species of spider in real life. The flower spider. To get back to Dhak, he named the spider Queen. In return, the spider was the only true friend he had for the rest of his Academy years. She would do as she pleased and seemed to carry an air of being watchful of Dhak's actions. He would use the Mouse cantrip to feed her well. When his mentor found out about Queen, he was very jealous and created a large black widow to hunt her down and kill her. But Queen mysteriously survived. Upon graduation, Queen became more independent and followed or visited Dhak on her terms. Dhak always caressed her like a shield spider would do during mating, and one of the few species that the female doesn't neccesarily kill the mate, and praised her like an idol. The spider is only 2ft in diameter, and Dhak is larger. Just because it looks like it's Butch and his dog Bud posing, doesn't mean he's lording over Queen at all. He adored her. She is seen not as a summoned spider, but a gift from Lloth. She served as a constant reminder that Lloth is watching over him and gave his focus a conduit to guide his reverence of the Demon Spider Queen below (although when she wasn't around, he held a very pioud admiration for Lloth, as his faith had been tested MANY times in the past). As a final note, I was the one who described how I wanted the picture to look, to portray the dark hero. If you wish to know more about Dhak's story, feel free to email me. Please put in the subject line you are from Elfwood. Thank you. | |
