SciFi and Fantasy Art: Cahra, more or less

I've been really getting into painting lately, and I decided that I'd like to do a portrait. My friend Lin suggested that I try and paint Cahra, Xicanti's wife, so that's what I've done! It's not a perfect representation of her - Cahra's face isn't so long, and her left eye isn't wonky - but I think it's fairly good, for a first attempt. Acrylic on 5x7 canvas board.

Very groovy! Looks just as good on the web! I think she turned out really good! The "wisps" and shading are really good. I love her hair style. Looks pretty much like how I saw her. Yousa need to teach me some painting!

Heya Ems! Dang! Mesa not first! Well, I'll make up for that by giving you some tips I should really use myself when painting. 12 Try blocking stuff in before you paint. Works out better that way for some reason. 12 Still, very good! I still wanna see a pic of Xic in color sometime! ;p

Thank ye fer the tips, Lini! What do you mean by the blocking, exactly? Taping off certain areas? Or just drawing it out first? I DO draw out the main outlines first, when I do faces, but I don't bother with details. Those got on after the first coat of paint is on. I'll TRY and do you one of Xic soon, but I don't know. I can never get his face right, and mesa no havin' de courage to be askin' other peeps to give it a tries! Bria: glad you like 'em! You haven't met Cahra yet, but you will soon. Me and Lini are just working on a message with her in it right now.

This is good. It is my favourite of your picture so far. I like the eyes, and the colors. Sorry that I can't say more, but I am not into pictures and so I can only comment on the effects they cause for me. I like it.
