SciFi and Fantasy Art: ROYGBIV

Okay, not quite the rainbow, but I enjoyed painting this one. I rarely work with watercolor, so this was a slight detour for an art class. Watercolor 2004.

Completely awesome picture! The colors are so cool. I had trouble figuring out what it was too, but I think it makes it more... mysterious? Maybe that isn't the right word. Anyhow, I love it!

For the record, Indigo is not a color. Sir Isaac Newton decided that since seven was a scientific number in so many cases there should be seven colors of the rainbow even though there are only six prominent ones. He really just invented Indigo on the spot. Today it is considered a color thanks to crayola *incoherent mumbling* but it really isn't one.

I'm ok. I'm done now.

:-) Erica Whalin replies: "I guess you (er, I, at least) learn something new everyday; I had no idea of the background behind the "color" indigo! Interesting... But, I didn't make up "ROYGBIV" (obviously). It just popped into my head because the colors reminded me of the rainbow."

Neat. Is it a dragon? It reminds me of some kage'e or japanese cut-paper pictures that i saw last spring, they were colorful and whimsical and little-kid-like and happy. Very pretty.

I thought indigo was a kind of dark purplish dye?

There's no green in the monster-thingy.... Just a thought... Over all, beautiful picture and imagination

:-) Erica Whalin replies: "Mmm, no, no green in the dragon... However! There's a little bit of green in the Earth. 2"

If indigo isn't a color then I have several tubes of paint a few bottles of ink that are mis-labeled. (?)

i really liked it. My little sisters first comment was 'where's the body?' but anyways i really liked the way you used all of the colours, it is really an interesting and almost mysterious, for lack of a better word, picture. BTW, how can indigo not be a colour! then my crayons, pencil crayons and so on are all messed up!
