SciFi and Fantasy Art: Cimmerian Rage

Here is my second installment to the world of Conan art. Artwork involving the Conan character has artistically influenced me more than anything else. Therefore, in this picture, my attempt was to present Conan as he has appeared in the world of art, rather than the typical comic-book rendering of him. As for the horse, I drew it from a photograph in a horse & rider magazine.

Why is everyone so down on your Conan?, I think he fits this picture perfectly. He's drawn in a more cartoonish way than the horse is so I'd hazard a guess that the horse is from a photo reference.
That's not to invalidate this drawing in any way though, I think it's great!

I really like the brutish portrayal of Conan that you chose. It is certainly preferable to the "cute and handsome" Conan art that L. Sprague de Camp insisted decorate the Tor books (the story goes that the only reason the Frazetta art got published on the Lancer/Ace editions is that Frazetta submitted his art at the last second. De Camp hated his brutish portrayal of Conan). I think the brutish look you gave Conan here fits the way Robert E. Howard wrote him. Excellent work!

The sheen on the horse's coat is amazing! And that's how Conan looks in the world of art? Hm, maybe I'm off, but he looks slightly native American to me in this picture. MUCH better than the comic book representation... -_- "Oh boy, another He-Man" Actually *cough* I think He-Man should look more like your Conan! *G*

This is the best of all the drawings, but nothing special.
If you decided to draw Conan o some other comic characters take some drawing published by some famous comic artists(John Buscema, Ernie Chan, ecc.)and try to copy them completely (I mean every single line or shade). Don´t put the pencil down until your drawing looks exactly the same as the one you were copying. As I can see you have the problems with drawing anatomy.Take the medicine book and study the form of muscles and bones. Keep your shades softer. If it takes 365 days to do the perfect drawing, take the 365 days, don´t finish it earlier.
This is the only way to learn.
Keep drawing!

Sencerely
