SciFi and Fantasy Art: Orpheus and Eurydice

Taken from Greek myth... There's a story about Orhpeus (the best lyre player ever!) and his wife Eurydice...On their honeymoon she wanders off for some reason and is approached by another man. As she's running away she treads on an asp and it bites her and she dies from the poison. Orpheus is so sad he decides to go to hades to get her back. His lyre playing lulls Cerberus (the three headed guard dog) to sleep and convinces the Ferry-man to take him into hades. He then plays for Hades and Persephone (the King and Queen of the dead) and they agree to let him take Eurydice home with him. Only he isn't allowed to look at her until they reach the mortal realm again. He leads her out of hades, but just as they get to the exit her looks back to check that she's still following him. And she is dragged back to hades. In the picture I tried to capture that moment, just before he has realised he has destroyed his last hope of getting his love back.

I love the expressions on both of their faces, especially the guys'! (Sorry, I didn't really look at the name before I went to the comment part!) It's brilliant, my English Lit' teacher loves it too! He's slightly obsessed when it comes to anything Greek and mythological (is that a word? lol)

Lovely expressions, just had to say that and a very sad story, so much tragedy in mythology.
