SciFi and Fantasy Art: Aran

This celtic knot-like construction is a piece of symbolism corresponding to the philosophy of the First Realm, the culture from which the Alanturian and the Lakorian civilizations of Fyria both derive.
It symbolises the world. In the First Realm, the world was believed to be kept in balance by two deities, Àntár (upper right) and Sílìn (lower left). They are intertwined and inseperable entities. The strong and active Àntár has pointy curves, whereas the more gentle and passive Sílìn has smoother curves. Together they form the world, or rather, they form Árán (loosely defined as "everything in existance"; an important religious principle).
Their myth eventually evolved into the Álàntúr which were believed in by the Lakorians and Alanturians later on.
