SciFi and Fantasy Art: Catullus 101

If anyone of you have read the poems of Catullus, then this needs no further explanation beyond the title. But to make it clear, this is Catullus who has traveled far by land and sea upon hearing of his brother's death. Read the poem if you get the chance (ok, so it's a plug for my Latin major). I drew this in pencil about four years ago, and I no longer have the original. This is a scan of a photocopy that my sister saved from the ones submitted to my high school magazine. I've done my best to clean it up and restore it.

Most of it was done in regular HB pencil, but I did shading with a sharpened 6B.

Emotional and incredibly simple. Not simple in a bad way but simple as in that mix of lines... It looks great for a photocopy.

A scanning of a photocopy!?!? ......After 5 days with a paint program cleaning up little dots a masterpiece is created!!!!!!!!!

And that's about how long it seemed to take, too.

This is so tragically beautiful. The emotion is conveyed so well it's almost tangible. I love his hand in his hair, it's so well done. Great job on all those little folds in the fabric of his clothing and the altar cloth. Wonderful. *peace*

"Multas per gentes et multa per aequora vectus/advenio has miseras, frater,ad inferias...".I love the pose and the emotion it conveys...and it is rare to find drawings inspired by Latin or Greek poetry on Elfwood =)
