SciFi and Fantasy Art: Waterbabies

Children of magic and the natural world, this elf child and small dragon at play in a quiet stream. This was mostly an exercise to see if I could make something done in photoshop come out looking more painted and less digital than usual. that involved using the brush more than the airbrush, muted colors more pen and tablet than mouse very little filter work too. I think it's an idea I want to work more with later.

I love this - I love the innocence and playfulness of the two children 12. Good work!

I have only one choice phrase:
"underneath our clothes, we're all naked." who cares? I think it adds to the natural-ness (if that's even a word) if she doesn't have clothes. And i think the ear's alright. So nea. Hehehe

Geez, guys? what's this with the clothes thing? I've seen pics in other galleries of barely-clothed women who are meant to be way more evocative than this. This isn't even evocative, it's completely innocent, I agree, and I love the way she's scratching the dragon's neck. A very wonderful picture, keep up the good work.

A beautiful picture – really charming. And I would like to encourage you to do as you say regarding using the Brush tool more; the effects are indeed much more 'natural'.
I don't want to teach my grandmother how to suck eggs, but I suggest you try experimenting with a scanned pencil sketch on the background layer, then painting in 'Multiply' mode on upper layers. The effect is very much like watercolours, and the transparency allows you to see the pencil lines through from the background layer. It may not be to your personal taste of course...

I'd add some faere wings on her. Making her look less human like. Put some clothes on her! How many people run around the woods naked?
