SciFi and Fantasy Art: Fingon rescues MaedhrosI have no idea how many times I've drawn this scene from the Silmarillion ten years ago. :) But I thought it was time to do it again...
Artistic liberties: I had planned to have them arriving in Mithrim, but the green hills just threw the whole pic off composition. And well, I know Maedhros ought to look a lot worse. :) Still, I like it.
Watercolour, pencil, photoshop.

| 23 Nov 2004 | Ginny_black | Good job! I love Fingon´s face. Your aquarell technic is fantastic! You´re my favourite artist of elfwood. | |
| 23 Dec 2004 | Laozamor | This is a great picture! I love the expression on Fingon's face. I also like your attention to detail, the gold threaded into Fingon's braid, the fact that he had his bow w/ him, everything, I've looked at 'Humiliation' and I loved the whole cutting-the-hair bit. I like the way you portrayed Maedhros too, after having been through that kind of torment but now he knows he's in Fingon's hands, though I do agree that he could've looked a bit more beat up . I love the way you can bring out emotion in things as simple as expressions and poses, I've found very few people who can do scenes from the Silmarillion any good, but you're the best so far. Thanks PS I think you should try Maedhros' actual chaining to Thangorodrim, I've seen so many versions of that but no one's ever gotten it right. I think you could.... Jenny Dolfen replies: "Thanks! I have got one of that scene - sort of. It's in "Tapestry of Sorrows" in my gallery." | |
| 29 Dec 2004 | Lia | This is my favorite part of the Silmarillion, and one of the most beautiful things I have ever read. I think you illustrated it wonderfully ( as always ! ) | |
| 18 Jun 2005 | Andrew | I really like this picture. When I first read the Silmarillion (about 25 years ago!) I imagined the scene as much more gritty and grimy and bloody in a sort of "Saving Private Ryan" way, but your take on the scene is entirely valid. Elves don't really age, so Maedhros might still look pretty good despite dangling from Thangorodrim for several decades. | |
| 19 Jun 2005 | Drowgirl | I cant draw hair... I cant draw hair... (repeats twenty times, then writhes on ground, shielding eyes from your glory...) | |
| 17 Sep 2005 | Kitty girl | wow, I love everything about it. | |
| 23 Sep 2005 | Erin E. Johnston | Hmmm.. I would ask for Fingon, but I already got Legolas... This is a beautiful picture. I appreciate things of the sad and bloody*_* | |
| 26 Feb 2006 | Erica Vermette | This is BEAUTIFUL! The poses, the coloring, everything! wow. | |
| 11 Feb 2008 | Lindale | I thought it was like five or seven years...
I love the whole picture but i don’t really like the ears... Fingon’s hand, wrapped aroung his waist looks at little off, sharp, diagonal maybe. very very beautiful. | |
