SciFi and Fantasy Art: Phoenix Reborn

As usual, my scanner scanned this rather dark. But, despite the fact that it is hard to make out, I like it this dark. I was playing around with the myth of the phoenix...of how the reborn phoenix's first job is to take the mummified remains of the last phoenix to a priest. Well, I really just sort of took my own path on that... my reborn phoenix is like an armored, starving bishounen (good Lord, everything I draw is that :) The priest looks like a jungle wild man. Well, it's got lots of good movement and I went heavy with the paint, which I love to do.

I can't quite pin down why, but I do. - The colours you've used are really magical and mysterious, and the way body parts/figures are semi-obscured helps the mystery along... you're really a naturaly painter I think :]
10 Oct 2002	Alexandra Phillips	Loading... This is really moving. It's a definate spin on the "bird is born, lives, and dies, only to be reborn" generic decription of the phoenix myth. The green and the yellows contrast very well with the dark, dreary subject matter.
