| 6 Dec 2001 | Alexander Werner | Hi Gretchen, I'm your neighbour next door (just for information)! After a long time I've returned to see if you have updated your gallery. And well, luckily you did . I was stunned how impressively you painted "Protective Nightwatch", it could be indeed a professional's work. But at the same time I wondered why you don't keep up the style of this picture in many of the others; They lack a little bit of shading so the people seem too flat to me (like in "World on a String") compared to the well drawn background. So I'd be glad if you had more pictures like "Protective Nightwatch" because....I think you know the reason . Keep on working and creating, you're really good at it! | |
| 7 Dec 2001 | Gretchen 'Starfish' Rettig | Howdy neighbor! Nice to meet you. I really must clarify that 'Protective Nightwatch' is a digital manipulation of two photographs and some added in drawing and detailing on the computer. It isn't a painting. I only pray that I could ever paint that well. The quality of my serious paintings, none of which are featured here however because of subjects not relating to the site, is better than what is shown here. The paintings of 'River Bath' and 'World on a String' were both completed in under three hours apeice, and with little effort, just to experiment with certain things. Those works will come down, when I have more serious work to put up. I am really just about to start sketching in order to advance my skills in form manipulation, and detailing will come secondary. My serious works each recieve much more extended time input on them, during the creation process. I am actually a skilled painter of non fantasy art, and this is actually very new to me. I will sonly have my private gallery filled with all the works I have done, and have acess too photographing. That way others can see my deepest passion expressed in art... Nature. It will be slow going for me to proceed here at Elfwood, because I tend to end up with my work looking 'Cartoonish' rather than as formed as I'd like it to be. It's all just a matter of time. | |
