SciFi and Fantasy Art: Badger Knight

Contrary to popular belief, knights didn't always go trasping around in full plate armor. In fact, a vast majority of them did not even own, nor could ever amass so great a fortune, to own a lot of armor. This is more like what they would have looked like, though as people, not badgers.

The two-handed greatsword was invented back int eh eleventh century, and the tip was occasionally blunted, like his is. After all, would you consider THAT a stabbing weapon? The shortsword is based off of Scandanavian design, and the rondel dagger on his right hip was used for amny things, including eating. Notice he's not wearing pants. Yep, that was common, too. The folds on his lip boots can be pulled up and fastened when ridign a horse to protect the legs, and his cloak is leather on the outside and lined with fur.

Well, that's enough of a history lesson, let me know what you think. This color went faster than normal, only takign about three or four hours of actual work.

Wow, you sure are great when it comes to drawing furries. This badger looks cool! Reminds me of Redwall. While I admit that I am a great fan of the Redwall series, Mikheil is actually not ispired by Redwall at all, but is actually a composite of movie, history, and cultural influences.

a i can say I’ve seen badger in real life, this actually reassembles there behavior very well.

:-) Mitch de la Guardia replies: "Really? Walking around carrying swords and stuff? I'd like to see one of those... Just kidding, I really tried to make the personality match the species on this one."

His shoes are ENORMOUS, I love them...and him of course.

:-) Mitch de la Guardia replies: "If you look closely, his gloves are enormous, too. He's a big fellow."

My favorite thing about this drawing is the costume. I love the muscles on his legs, they look almost realYou know, in some countries, they are real.

The pose and composition is great, but I can tell you did not invent the time you generally do in this piece. After checking out a few of your pics this is apparent especially in the knee area and in the fact that the swords lack depth (z coordinate, to be precise). There is also a bend in the great sword which should not be there(right behind the neck). And I think the greatsword should be longer (I thought it is from tip of one hand's finger to other shoulder in regards of blades and another 3 palms for the hilt's length in order to use the techniques that goes with it). Even with these flaws it is a remarkable picture. The facial expression sets the mood for the whole picture, I can imagine quite some situations in which this would talk for itself (I imagined him next to the tailor guy a few pics away, would be interesting).

I do not know how long humanity turns to drawing, or if we want to shorten the time how long we draw people with swords. What is cliche? All is said and all is shown, you will hardly find a believable pose not done in some regards somewhere. I value that you have not a scene but a character in mind if you start to draw. It shows in the most positive sense. I love your art.I don't see much wrong in the knee area, the sword is about the right length as far as I'm concerned as there was no set length a blade has to be, and the bend is accidental. The angles, however are happenchance correct for as much as I care. After all this piece is nearly four years old now. Glad you like it, though.

Cool Badger, well done! I appreciate people who care about what they claim. You claim Mikheil a knight, and make him so with realistic thinking. Boo steel plated Badger warriors: Hooray Realism!

Oh, I guess I should also add that I really think this pic rocks. I like your anthro.
Nice name, too! It is kind of mine--but I have always liked the Russian version better.Mikheil is fun to draw, and I really should do another piece of him soon.

^___^ Badger characters are really interesting. I've got three in the novel I'm writing. Your badger knight turned out really well, the colors of the all mesh clothes especially nicely. A very inspiring piece.Sadly, this fellow's story has been put on hold at the moment. Hope to pick back up with him soon.
