SciFi and Fantasy Art: Der Drache

A dragon, flying high in the sky... don't you ever wish you could be that powerful and fly like this ?

The wings look as if the hind edge is thicker, that wouldn't be very aerodynamic. They must be bigger, too. The head is very cool, I can really feel the power, and hear the scream

Oh, I wish that all the time... and dream it a lot too. His wings are pretty messed up. They look almost on backwards, but I think you tried to draw them showing the air catching in them (?).. I'm not sure. All I know is that I've tried the same thing before, and it's hard (really hard) to get right. I've done it once or twice by fluke mostly. ^_^

ITS HUGE!!! No forelimbs, how unusual. Don't usually draw dragons myself but I do sand-dragons at the beach. They are very cool creatures. Have your read the dragon books of Pern? I do like the dragons in terry pratchett, wubby little critters! Anyway..... The lack of forelimbs make it seem a little odd, because it would have to perch like a bird. Wings- maybe more batlike?

Its hard to draw arms on, i know that much- i was drawing a dragon today, it looked ok exept one arm was under the chin with the head on the side and the other was resting on its stomach, kinda looked like it was saying hmmmmm wat shall i eat next........
I like the wings though. They look backwards- try and soften up the line at the back edge. It might help

WHOA! Great muscular definition here! I love it.

I don't know if you drew the wings like that on purpose. They are backward if you are going by 'normal' standards. I made the SAME EXACT mistake with SEVERAL of my first dragons.

However, if you are going more diverse versions of dragons, then I think you've got it down. This is a REALLY cool dragon. I love how you have the dragon's mouth wide open like that in a roar.

It's like the bumble bee (or whatever bee it is, I can never remember) that isn't supposed to be able to fly according to scientific standards. However, it /does/ fly.

In my opinion: Don't draw to please the crowd, draw to please yourself. It may take years (and may not), but people will come to accept and love a differnt view. It was the same with everyone who presented new ideas in the past. Like the guy (why can't I remember things tonight?) who said that the Earth revolved around the sun, not the other way around--he was ridiculed and called crazy and all that kind of stuff. And people said Christopher Columbus would fall off the edge of the world--but he didn't. He may have done some horrible things in his past--but at least he proved the Earth was NOT flat. ^_^

Do things differently, I say! 2
