SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Masque of the Red Death

'...and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.' I'm sure many of you are familiar with the story by Egdar Allan Poe. Those who aren't, go read up. It's wonderfully dark! Anyway, here is portrayed the very moment that the clock strikes its twelfth hour, and the cloaked figure appears in the black room.

...and no we return to the more hauntingly wonderful stuff. I might be in our best mental health interest that you not become to prolific at this. Because, I am crazy enough as it is 1

Ooo, I like it. Then again, I adore Edgar Allen Poe. Macabre...2 This is very good. Even if you hadn't told us it was inspired by Poe, I'm sure I would have figured it out.

Yet another morbid looking thing. But I like it. There's always been that strange attraction to the dead and undead to me. Maybe that's why I like movies like "The Mummy" and such. Very nice dark colors which present the mood well.

I remember that story.... I recall watching a movie starring Vincent Price. Very scary. Lovely rendering, great colors, great picture, =)

YES! ::awards lots of gold stars:: That's one of my favorite stories, and you've captured it perfectly here ::grins:: Though for some reason the image I always associate with the story is from D&D and is one of the little filler images; has the upper body of a person holding aside a mask, except that their face is a skull. Or maybe the mask is the skull. I don't remember exactly, since it's been awhile since I've perused through the EM books (Encyclopedia Magica, btw). But anyway :19ff to look at more artwork::

Nice! The shadows and highlights are perfect in this! I love the red of the curtain complimenting the red blood. I've always wanted to do an illustration of this, but I have a hard time drawing shrivelly dead things. You've done a wonderful job. 2

Wicked cool! I especially like the curtain, it looks like it took lots of time, with the shading and the knot in it. It is really detailed.
