Shadow: I hope you know that shields are made for blocking swords, spears, arrows et cetera. It would look really stupid to have a shield mereley as an ornament. Doncha think?

Hey, I love the pic. I'm with an authentic Medieval foot Kombat group known as the Blades of Glory. (www.heydon.com/business/medieval) for those of you who want to check out the web site. But I love the authenticity of the pic. It actually looks like two of our Knights. We do Live steel fighting, which means we use real (dull) sword, and we actually hit each other, in a non correographed tournament. The shields do notch like that. keep practicing. You did Great!

I think it is just right the way it is. The unfinished bits give it a sense of life. "Finishing it" might actually finish it off. Just make more of them, it's great!

Actually a shield will never block a full blow from a sword, half the protection comes from your footwork.

The shield was used as a deflective surface causing the hit to glance off, not to "block" blows.

if the second knight holding his sword in the Johannes Liechtenauers Zornhau position has stepped on the circle.

then the sword would glance his shield correctly.

I think the artwork is well created and obviously researched the only possible historical error i can see is that the knights are wearing greathelms which were cavalry helmets.

Thats not to say the knights havn't dismounted for one reason or another however and due to the plate armour on their legs that is a possibility.
