SciFi and Fantasy Art: Feline Forest Cerebus

Done with chalk pastels on pastel paper, this was an experiment to see how far I could push myself to create something in color. It is of a stalking 3-heade feline demon thing. Like in some of the old myths involving Cerebus, it has a scorpion tail, and is wreathed in a flaming neck and tail 'mane'. Steph Hann was the inspirational artist for this piece, as her feline creations are very lovely. :) Look! It has am actual Background as well!!! :) This is a first for a feline creature in a long long time.

Iiinteresting. *nods* I'd just like to see 'more,' y'know? I don't work much with pastels anymore because I have the problem of not having paper big enough, or space to put the paper, or no way to clean up after the mess. 12 I think pastels like you, but I'd advise working large, since they're a relatively blunt medium. Very nifty pose, too!

:-) Hope Lynn Bryant replies: "*grins* Thanks!I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'more'.., more pastel pieces?? I'll sure try. 1 More detail? Well as you said pastels are very blunt, and this was done on a 8x11 piece of pastel paper. 10 I learn the hard way how hard details are to create at such a small size. ugh x.xI'll keep the advice in mind. 2 When I get paid next I'm going to see about doing some supply shopping. Hmmn Taus or Pearls may have what I need..., Thanks!! 1"

I like the idea behind this. If you go back to touch this up, use more pastels to grind chalk into the paper to blend the colors more. You can see the graining of the paper a bit too clearly through the feline itself.

:-) Hope Lynn Bryant replies: "That's what I wanted to do originally. The fact that its a night scene and Iused white paper doesn't help either. x.x ugh.My gram insisted to go lightly. I may go back and smooth some of the areas out more. I have new pastels too but I'm not sure how one brand will affet the other. 10 Thanks! and yes I agree. 2"
