SciFi and Fantasy Art: Across A Thousand Dreams (The Alantheon Portal)

Would you descend, From such great heights, And in the pathless dark be seen? Where broken chains, And endless nights, Lead across a thousand dreams. I know the place of screaming hearts, I made escape on dragon's wings, I went to temples in the clouds, And tasted wine of hippocrene. And though there were some other souls, Who brushed the nearest part of me, I'm awed that you exchange your throne, For this blemished reality.

Hypnotic. Lucid dreaming through essence of lord Hypnos...

How beautiful! It looks like an underwater world, filled with wild creatures of the sea and mysterious sources of warm light.

If you look at this for long enough, it starts to turn blurry, and a great depth opens beyond the flat screen. Then dark creatures start appearing at the fringes, but if you look directly at them they vanish and it is just a flat picture again. You are a fraud! This is not mere art - you have put a real doorway to another dimension on the internet!

Oh Wow! I see both sea and sky in this one! And you know, I would trade my throne for this beautiful, blemished reality!

Wow. Absolutely amazing. The style and colors and everything are great, but what I think is the real polisher is the feeling... It feels like the in between of dreams, the fadeing of one to another. The particular images in it are circumstantial compared to the feeling of transition in it. Amazing. You caught the images in the mind during REM sleep incredibly well. Congrats.

If you're not a professional writer already, you should definitely look into it as a career path. The poem that describes this portal is astonishingly well written, and sets the mind to fantasy even before the beauty of your art is realized. The use of colors is excellent, the only point where the flow of the picture is broken at all is the red spot, but the break is almost unnoticable.

This is a wonderful piece of the abstract. The colors work very well together and have always been a favorite combo of mine. Did you write the poem? It is also beautiful with wonderfully vivid imagery, even without a pic it would be so.

This is absolutely amazing, the poetry as much as the picture. Both are the kind of things I keep trying to accomplish but just can't seem to. Absolutely beautiful, keep creating these mystic portals!

WOW!!!!!!!! I cannot stress the wow-ness of this! Did you come up with this poetry yourself? If it's a song, I NEED to know the name!!!!!!!!!!!

:-) Alan R. Howcroft replies: "Thankyou. I wrote the poem about six years ago, prior to an important event in my life. I'm surprise (and pleased) it has provoked so much positive comment. The picture is many years older, and was one of those magical occasions when the paint seemed to know where to go with very little help from me! They were both spontaneous creations, and just seemed to go together. Regards, Alan. "
