SciFi and Fantasy Art: The Waydreland Mermaid

In the land of Ilorane, in the province of Norane, there was a formidable stronghold called Waydreland Tower. Hewn from natural elevations of granite, it rose imperiously above a confusion of wharfs, temples and dwellings which clung to the rocks of a rugged peninsular. Ships of all lands sheltered in its harbour, small boats moved to and fro beneath its protective gaze, and one dilapidated coaster ferried patrons out to the storm-battered pierhead of a notorious wooden construction. Before the indulgent watch of the great Tower, the Mermaid tavern perched precariously upon a rocky islet, and engaged in a nocturnal orgy of revelry. Isolated from the patrols which kept order, this was the favoured rendezvous of pirates, smugglers, thieves and whores. Waydreland's Mermaid lured many innocents to their doom.

I love it. All of your pictures give me a feeling of Deja Vu. How do you take something so new and fresh and turn it into something I feel I've seen somewhere before?? You truly have a wild, unbridled talent!

...hong kong harbor. kind of. the way the buildings fall right down the sides of the hills to the edge of the water, so all you can see when you look up is man-made structures. and the buildings are kind of chinesey, altho the tavern has that english medieval half-timbering. i dunno, i still like it.
