SciFi and Fantasy Art: Satyr

This picture of a satyr was drawn in a life drawing class. It was an instant hit, with everyone else trying so hard to just draw the figure. Best part was the teacher... he came over, looked at it for several seconds, then laughed and said, 'I just noticed the horns.' He looked a few more seconds, and then i asked, 'and the legs?' And he said, 'oh my gosh!' Black and white conte crayon, 2 hour pose.

LOL! This is one place where the line between fantasy and reality blurs. A very beautiful figure drawing for one, and a great transitioning between forms for another. Wonderful shading and brilliant idea.

A terrific drawing, Albert ! What a great idea... I have never combined a real figure drawing with what's in my mind... It's a good way to make sure that the proportions are right, that's for sure.

Thank you! I know what you mean about proportions, but I believe you have to be able to get the proportions right first, before you can start to exaggerate them. Otherwise it looks like you didn't know what you were doing. I've seen many drawings where the artist says, "I wanted it to look that way," but you can see it's just an excuse for unknown proportions.

Pan seems to have aged rather well. Nicely Done. Talent shows.

Your a great artist, you should continue drawing. Satyr is one of the best pieces on elfwood. I'm amazed at your talents

Great, absolutely realistic, altough he looks quite old, but I think even a satyr gets older by the time..

Wow great figure study. I know what it's like to draw figures using this medium. I took the drawing course last year in college. I love how the legs turned out and your reflecting highlights on the body worked out really well. Great job!!
I feel bad that the teach didn't notice what it was at first.. *aaahh shakes head***

How REFRESHING! I am a sucker for anything drawn with 'proper things'... yeah, I know we all use computers... and yeah I appreciate the skill in doing that too, but look at this!

Truly a really refeshing work.

I am glad that you got a good humored anatomy instructor, every budding artist needs one, when I was still in college, I didn't have the luck of studying under a well ripened anatomy professor, because she was always a sour and opinionated woman, who would sit down and draw on everyones drawings! Secretly I think had a crush on one of our models, because we didnt have many chances to draw someone new LOL, the same guy kept getting requested again and again! It was all a case of unrequited love I guess *giggle* Nonetheless, I managed to hide most of my 'altered' pieces from her, and her opinionated graffitti *S*
