'The role of the artist is to bring forth the sacredness of the material, to reveal its spirit, rather than to alter its basic qualities in some way. [. . .] The process of creating art, of transformation, is seen as one kind of magic; therefore, all artistic acts intrinsically have merit, and all artists are essentially magicians or shamans who mediate between the everyday world and the world of the unconscious.' - Sabina Magliocco in Neo-Pagan Sacred Art and Altars
Welcome to my selection of mythopoetic, illustration, fantasy art! If you enjoy this tiny sampling of my work, may I suggest visiting my DA gallery, which is updated more frequently or my personal blog of art & writing: Flora, Fauna, Persona. However, this gallery does contain some of my older work that is no longer viewable on my website.
Desirée a twenty-four year old artist who resides in the woodlands of eastern Pennsylvania among Sassafras and Tulip Poplars, near the shores of a lake frequented by Great Blue Herons, White-tailed Deer, and Muskrats.
Her lifelong interest in Faerylore, mythology, symbolism, and Nature have greatly influenced both the style and subjects of her work as well as providing a deeper context for her art practice. She has a particular passion for mythopoetic portraiture wherein she seeks to capture the elusive muses of Faery, often translating their presence into theriomorphic figures.
Desirée's artwork also possesses something of its own dark aesthetic - there are threads of melancholy, sorrow, and subtle traces of a morbid fascination to be found by the observant throughout her work. The chthonic, arcane, and mysterious have long been inspirational companions, stirring her imagination and leading her to explore certain aspects of myth and symbolism through art.
To date her work has been featured on the Endicott Studio of Mythic Arts Blog, in the online poetry journal Goblin Fruit, within Epilogue’s New Masters of Fantasy volume III collection, in SageWomanand Pentacle magazines. Desiree’spieces have also graced the covers of If... A Journal of Spiritual Exploration , PaganNet News and the GypsyRose catalog.

desiree, your art is absolutely mind-blowing. Your style certainly unique, and you are so creative. I've never seen so particualr and beautiful animal-maidens, and even though you mostly start your drawings as doodles, they seem to be perfectly diagramed. Your talent is such that you can deal perfectly with so many styles! Congratulations, you've been granted with a wonderful gift. I'm very flattered by your comments. Thank you very much!
Your pictures are really fantastic! You're grate ^^

Heh, I'm glad my comment on "Another Deerwoman" didn't blow up in my face. Your gallery is gorgeous! I think that anyone who draws nature should RESPECT it first, otherwise it's just robbery, really. Stealing beauty you haven't tried to understand should be a mortal sin. I can tell that you understand what your doing, and let me say I appreciate the heck out of it. I'm glad that your comment on "Another Deerwoman" didn't blow up in your face either! Thank you. Although it would be pretty arrogant for me to say that I fully understand something as complex and wonderful as Nature, I really do try to be respectfully observant of it.
Now I may only be a Freshman in high school ,but, I am on the Internet all the time, and, I rarely can fined any picks. that i rely like except yours. They are amassing i have shared them with my high scool art teacher and she agrees with me . Now I hope you continue to draw, because it is a rare talent to catch the eye of a teen and keep there attention for long.Thank you very much! I hope my work does not let you down in the future!
I can not truly justify my feelings with words, but I will attempt it. Your art is some of the most wonderfully created beauty I have seen to date. You take what others wonder, and imagine it into reality. Please continue to compose creative and contemplative constructs of chimeric craftsmanship. You posses a gift on a level that many will never imagine that they can aspire to.Thank you very much! I do not feel worthy to accept such an eloquent compliment, but I appreciate it nonetheless.
*is in a state of shock* How come there doesn’t seem to be a single comment on a single piece in your gallery? It’s obviously neither brand spanking new or undeserving... Seems all comments must have been deleted...
Anyway, excellent work. I came here when I found the white doe of nara (while searching for something entirely different). Her hair is wonderful. All your work is wonderful. You deserve many more mods choices than you have
