SciFi and Fantasy Art: Claw Again

This a pic pic of what my original claw is supposed to look like. This time I put it on a female character. The claw, I know, has got to be a cumbersome and not a very practical weapon but there is something very menacing about a weapon like that I guess. Maybe its just me. The glove and claw I made larger than normal as an experiment as with most of my pictures. This picture was done in a desktop format 800x600 because I got tired of making pictures that couldn't be used for anything. Feel free to download this pic if you like that much. The background is a 3d rendering I did in 3d studio max. Everything else is scanned and colored in photoshop 4.0.

2 Dec 2002	Doom child .65475and a half	Loading... I want a claw-like thingy like that...Your drawings are very well done, in general...( i dont find a dead thingy trying to kiss someone a very pleasant thing, but hey whos pleasant?)very good...I especially like the equipment your characters have.
13 Nov 2005	J. D.	Loading... Think about which joint you're controlling the claw from, and how many degrees of freedom you have. With a sword, it's shoulder, elbow, wrist- you have three degrees of freedom, and a reasonably sturdy joint backing the blow. Finger claws, you've got an extra set of joints, but relatively weak ones, and I doubt you'd gain more than you lose. Forearm claws, you're aiming from the elbow, and you do lose a decisive degree of freedom. Human anatomy just doesn't support claws well any more. Foot talons, on the other hand, might work.
