| 13 Nov 2005 | J. D. | Think about which joint you're controlling the claw from, and how many degrees of freedom you have. With a sword, it's shoulder, elbow, wrist- you have three degrees of freedom, and a reasonably sturdy joint backing the blow. Finger claws, you've got an extra set of joints, but relatively weak ones, and I doubt you'd gain more than you lose. Forearm claws, you're aiming from the elbow, and you do lose a decisive degree of freedom. Human anatomy just doesn't support claws well any more. Foot talons, on the other hand, might work. | |
