SciFi and Fantasy Art: Bleeding

I had never understood self-mutilation, until some people on the Internet explained to me that it was the only way for them to face their pain. I revised Lord Leighton's 'Flaming June' painting in my pencil drawing, and I hope I haven't tarnished the original!

I don't know much about cutting but I do know about Flaming June. I created a four foot square mural of it two years ago and am very intimate with the details. I'd like to commend you for your use of the image; despite some technical flaws that, judging from your other images, you are more than capable of correcting if you chose to, this is a beautiful piece. I also love the way you have the dragon wrapped around her, looking like it is trying to understand, the way you were.

Although your drawing is well done technically it does very much lack the emotions that go along with self mutilation. I'll forgive you for that because you do not really understand it. Part of the release, for me personally was to focus on the acutual cutting and watch the blood running down. It's not something I do anymore, not after multiple stitches and an eight day stay at the nut farm.

When I feel pain I usually dig my nails into my arm and it stops me from crying. Physical pain blocks out the emotional pain. Simple as that

I imagine that the small dragon is her pet... He doesn't understand what she's doing. Smiling sadly, she thinks, "I wish you could understand..."

This is a VERY good picture, but the girl's face lacks the emotion that goes with self-mutilation. It's a mixture of pain, and pleasure and sheer gratefulness tat you've found an escape, but also hatred of the fact that this the only way you know how to heal.

u have a great talent for shading! i love the composition of this picture! but why is her face so happy or content while she is slitting her wrist? is she not doing that because she is in pain?

Hi, I think this is a beautiful piece. I used to self-harm, (for my own reasons) and I have to say you’ve captured the emotion perfectly. Sad yet serene. You’re a fantastic artist with a great talent.
Jessemartin18, if you read this, then I just want to say you have completely missed the point of this piece. I don’t think it is poking fun at people who self harm, but instead is an effort to better understand the act of self-mutilation and the feelings that accompany it.
