SciFi and Fantasy Art: Big Fight

This is the oldest picture I drew that had Joanna in it (89!). I found it tucked away in one of my portfolios while I was moving. Man this brings back memories. I never finished it, I lost interest or something. I don't remember it was so long ago.

In my view there are no "nice" orcs. Their religion and culture kinda prohibits them from getting along well with others. 3rd edition AD&D I believe made a boo-boo in making it possible to play orcs as a PC. Right and wrong, good and evil has gotten muddled. Every story needs a nemesis; An evil to fight, defend against and triumph over (or die trying). Orcs and undead are the purest form of that good vs. evil in my campaigns, that and evil wizards. Now, it's all screwed up. This "good and evil is subjective" crappp has got to go. If there IS such a thing as a paladin orc it should be by orc culture standards (instead of defending the weak it should be defending the honor of his or her particular clan, which includes killing humans and any other race that is encroaching on their land).

You should finish it. It would look really good. This on it's own looks amazing but it looks worse b/c it's unfinished.

For those who are fans of the Joanna character I finally started a yahoo group dedicated to her. A Yahoo group is cheaper and easier so I went that route. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JoannaDelZoltan

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "They're orcs. AD&D orcs, not Tolkein orcs."

yeah, you're right, i read a D&D once who had a orc picture, it looks just like them.
anyway, so, how do cobolds look like?

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "IN D&D kobolds are described as "short ( about 3 feet tall, or almost a meter tall) humanoids...(whose) scaley skin ranges from rusty brown to a rusty black color. It has two small light-colored horns on it's doglike head, glowing red eyes, and a non-prehensile tail like that of a rat.""

Why arnt they green? WoW orcs look so much more dangerous.Even tho, props on the pic,it looks very nice

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "This was drawn wayyyyyyyyyy before Warcraft was even conceived. I used the Dungeons and Dragons descriptions of orcs and they can range in color from brown to green to nearly black. "Orcs" have been around long before WoW, and has been borrowed by numerous fantasy setting games both roleplaying and computer. Even Everquest has orcs and they look a lot different than WoW orcs."

A great brawl, looks like fighters are having a grand old time.

This is a great picture. One can see that you made in the late 80s, because Joanna has that 80s hair style! I also love there's a lot of action in this picture, and of course the vast amount of details you put in it. Maybe you just keep it as it is and don't finish it.

Love it! I dig those pig faced Orcs! You are a proper old-school d&d Avacado.

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "I always liked the pig-faced version of orcs myself. That way you could tell the difference between them, goblins, and hobgoblins. With 3rd edition, I was looking at the drawings and saying to myself " ok, is that an orc or a hobgoblin?" With the pig-faced faces, there’s no mistake."
