SciFi and Fantasy Art: Minotour and Joanna

This drawing was from a campaign that had Joanna as an NPC in one of my many failed AD&D adventures. The big guy is Garok Duhr, an intelligent minotaur from a land ruled by others like himself. Sent to the human populated lands to scout for a future invasion by the minotaurs, he roamed the land as an adventurer where he eventually met Joanna. Feigning disinterest in her, Garok earned into Joanna's confidence and she befriended the huge beast, not knowing his true intentions, for where Garok came from humans were slaves, and the women treated as little more than breeding stock (as written in 2nd edition AD&D Monstrous manual, minotaurs can only procreate with human females). He planned on tricking her and her companions back to his lands someday, and once enslaved, will rise to a position of power and prestige among his fellow minotaurs by owning such a beautiful human. Of course, this campaign never lived long enough to see it come to that point.

I agree with ogrebear, I'd love to see a pic (or several!) of Garok Duhr on his own!!
If you you have any such pics, is there any chance you'd email me some? I'd really appreciate it!
As others have said, you draw minotaurs differently than most, showing them not just as brute monsters, but a proud and powerful race with more depth and complexity than most people would think. Kudos! (can you tell I'm a 'taur fan?)

Very good pic. I would like to see more like it. Keep up the great work.

Wow.. I cant lose myself in complimenting your fine style!
A fine B/W pic that without doubt may materialize illicitly in printer trays around the world.

You're very good in depicting scenes. Even if this may look a pose, there is story in it by the stances and facial expressions, way more then pose.

I am 100% with Ogrebear and Adam: Please grant the proud Taur pics of his own as he's a magnificant beast/man/warrior to behold.

Its great to see Joanna evolve through your artworks from the fighting one onwards. You attach to specific characters and they live on with you, I get that in my stories too.

In my attempted doodlings (hell will freeze over before they'll be allowed on Elfwood LOL) I especially appreciate if folks want to tell the story around the picture (like you did too in the bathing Joanna & the 6 Orcs artwork)
so I'll add my $ 0.02:

Whatever mighty Garok planned.. its not going to happen like that! He'll be taken in by Joanna's charm, in fact he looks quite protective over him even now. A mighty 1.000lbs Taur warrior perhaps, but with Joanna's female cunning it remains to be seen who'll be leading who inna while..

I like to think the snoutring's a little tongue-in-cheek gift of hers and he didnt see it coming!

Like somebody said: good to see you instill proud masculinity and dignity into him and make him transcend the "monster" niche most Taurs end up in.

Here's to the Power of the Taur!

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "Hehe, I never looked at it like that. It would make sense, though, if the tables were turned on poor Garok. Too many people underestimate Joanna's charming wiles ;o)"

Like the shadows of the axe and the size difference between the two figures

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "I was shooting for a significant difference in height between Joanna and Garok, to emphasize her femininity and his beast/monster persona."

hehehe... my name is Joanna... but I DON'T look like that (I wish)...! Amazing picture! I really love your work.

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "Thank you!

Don't feel bad about not looking like this girl. I don't know anyone who does. Of course, I don't see too many minotaurs walking around these days, either. Would be interesting if they did, though, wouldn't it?"

Great picture! I think those two would make the perfect couple!

A good picture! With a bit of "Elmore" styled posing thrown in for good measure!

:-) Matt Jarrett replies: "Good eye! Yeah, I specifically tried to give this drawing an Elmore flavor! "

I don’t see his adventuring group being welcome in any civilized towns or cities?
