SciFi and Fantasy Art: Commonly mistaken for a White Mare...

The Unicorn. A unicorn is a creature like no other, though it resembles a horse. I despise those unicorns are just horses with horns plastered onto their heads. Grrr.

LOL! And amen to that!

Too many times I see unicorn that have to beards, no cloven hooves, and no lion's tails. And they like to frollic with butterflies. *Gags* Or they're purple with shiny silver wings. Ooooo. *rollseyes*

Unicorns are unicorns! Not "MyLittlePonies" with horns on their heads!

Nice picture, really.

Still, I always draw unicorns that resemble horses more then a goat or something. Of course, they don't look like a horse with a horn, but the do look alot like horses. I don't think there is any 'correct' way to draw a unicorn, because they don't exsist (that we know of) and hey! There could be two types. The 'correct' unicorn behind the other one looks a horse, too. Only smaller with a longer mane and different tail.

I think a unicorn CAN be mistaken for a white mare, except the unicorn is smaller and lighter, with cloven hooves and a lion's tail. Males have beards like a goat, and the feathers (long hairs at the base of hoof) are optional. Usually it is the eyes that give it away. You can always tell a unicorn by its eyes.

Meep. Unicorns exist. And their only purpose in life if to be eaten by me, for I am always hungry. Except for Bob. His only purpose in life is to be the only unicorn in existance that is always drunk. *smaks bob for late living-in-my-head rent payment*

I love the true unicorns that are the size (or larger) than a horse. ;]

All right everybody, calm down. There is no one "right" way to draw a unicorn. Go to India and they'll tell you one way, go to Europe and they'll tell you another, then head to China and you'll get another version. To "not agree" with someone's version of a unicorn is kind of like saying "no I don't agree that you see that cloud that way" or "no, I don't think that you think that bush looks like a five-legged donkey." Everyone sees unicorns their own way and that is the right way for them. We don't need to go around insulting each other's "versions," we just draw or write about our own and try not to get self-righteous.

Anyhow, cute picture.

IMHO, if a unicorn is going to look like a horse, it should look like an idealized horse. And have cloven hooves. And a beard...unless she's female, in which case the beard can be omitted.

At very least, it shouldn't look like this:
<http://www.markerin.com/Mark/>. Bleh.

By the way, that was a "bleh" to the link, not the picture. The picture is wonderful. And the "real" unicorn looks *much* less like a horse than the "impostor."
