SciFi and Fantasy Art: Merkat Warrior II - Guardian of the Abyss (Revised)

In the deepest depths, where crystal-clear blue is replaced by inky blackness, there is still a light that shines. She is the bane of those who stray too deep - she is the guardian of the Abyss, protector of the treasures and secrets confined to the darkness. She wields the Eye of the Deep, an ancient, mystical weapon imbued with powerful magic and inseparable from its wielder.

For quite a while, I'd thought about revising this picture - I love it a lot but felt I could make it even better. I took a stab at it and you can see the results below. I'm really pleased with how well the angler fish turned out (drawn completely from scratch - no pencil sketches!). You can still find the original version posted on my personal web page if you wish to compare. Enjoy everyone...hug your mer-kitty! =)

IM # 1 woooooo hooo... um i mean... she is number one.. well act mature... it is a great picture i like how the weapon has that kind of neon light to it Thanks - glad you like her! Lighting effects are great fun to use - really helps her weapon look kick @ss too. =)

Ooh... love the spear weapon thingie.
What makes the blade glow? Whatever it is, I think
I'll use it for an upcoming weapon. Well, her weapon has some real powerful magic and it's intelligent too. It's not only brutally sharp, but will burn like phosphorus too so it'd leave a pretty nasty wound (if you surived the first hit that is). Thanks for commenting!

Hihi where to start? First off i love the sharp edges and the lack of contour lines, it has a professional feel to it, defenetly your best CG work to date. I also love the lightening effect, it really shows that the light is coming from her weapon (very neatly designed, of course 12) I also love her turtle-shelf shield ^^ Her hair should be a little more 'floaty' though.. but other then that its great ^__^ >^.^ Thanks much for feedback Kat - glad you like my latest creation! Professional quality? Hmmm...maybe - I'm getting there though. 2 The lighting effect for the weapon (especially the glowing eye!) was great fun to do and was part of my initial idea for this. The turtle shell shield was actually something from one of my roleplaying characters (RIP Coral...) which she used with a katana, but she also had a nifty marine-style polearm. Yeah, I need to work on the hair, but I tried to give it softer edges (unlike my Zira portrait picture). Anyway, thanks again for the comment - the best is yet to come! 2

She's beautiful!
(to mer-kat): so, if you ever come up on land...;-) Thanks for commenting - glad you like her! I'm afraid she's not likely to leave the ocean depths anytime soon though. Hug your mer-kitty! =)

This is a wonderful pic! I think it's a really great idea giving the person cat ears! I also like her weapon a lot. Very nice. I like all of your other pics too! Keep up the good wo Thanks much for the comment! This is still one of my favorites and I'd have to rate it as the best quality picture I've done. Cat ears is a must if you're a cat-girl, and since that's a BIG part of my art there's plenty of that going on. =) Her weapon is one of my favorite elements - I find I can do a good job designing fantasy weapons, especially ones that a mer-kat might use. Be sure to stop by again - the best is yet

She is definately one beautiful warrior. 1 question you say the weapon is inseprable from it's weilder so if she say shot it at an opponet it would come back to her automaticaly after it speared said opponent? if so that would make for a cool weapon (like marvel's thor's hammer that automaticaly returns to  Thanks for the comment - glad you like her! Inseparable = she has a permanent bond with the Eye of the Deep" which means she can use it VERY efficiently and will always have it with her. The Eye of the Deep isn't designed at all to be thrown - it's a slashing and stabbing weapon and its cuts burn like phosphorous - very nasty<

So much for "Mermaids". Man, i never want to find out what she will do with the guys drilling for oil in the ocean. 12

Really fantastic, Jeff! I never saw a prettier "Merkat" like this. Thanks Martin! I'm really pleased with this one and consider it to be my overall best picture. Mer-kats are great - I'll probably create more like this one!

I especialy enjoyed the triton type weapon and the turtle shell shield I've found I've gotten quite good at designing polearms for my mer-kats (or other marine/aquatic cat-girls) to use...the Eye of the Deep is definitely of the fiercest weapons I've ever created. As for the shield...well, you can't get more appropriate than that for an undewater warrior, execpt for perhaps the shell of a giant clam? Thanks for the c
