SciFi and Fantasy Art: Demon Shark

I've always loved sharks - to me they're right up there on my personal list of beauty (along with fighter jets and of course cat-girls). Long before I got introduced to anime, I used to draw sharks all the time, then that habit died away pretty quickly. Recently, though, I got a sudden rush of inspiration and felt the urge to return to my old habit, only this time I wanted to add in some creativity as well.

So, below is my result. I based her (yes, it's a female) body form on the great white shark, though I purposefully made her snout more pointy and made her a little less robust than a real shark of the same size (roughly 12 meters), as well as my other demonic embellishments. I didn't want to add to much ornamentation, however - she's still got to have the sleek, stealthy torpedo shape. The only reference I used was for the pilot fish.

I'm starting to hear that Jaws tune in my mind...
Right now, I'm glad I'm not in Florida, after
hearing Jay Leno's shark jokes last year. Heh heh...well, I doubt you'd find her anywhere near Florida, but you never know. 12 Thanks for the comment!

I like the little zebra fishes in the background. And I like your Shark, I don't see a demon in it, but that's not important as long as the moderators see it. 2 The colours are nice, I think you could add a sweet catgirl/mermaid to it. 2 The zebra fishes are more commonly known as pilot fish, usually found in small schools swimming in front of sharks and other large fish. It was once thought that the pilot fish would guide the shark to food, hence their name, but that's just a myth. The colors on the shark are much darker than you'll ever find in nature, especially the underside which is normally light colored for camoflage...the spines and other pointed areas (nose, above the eyes) were my other demonic ehancements (as well as the glowing pink eye). My initial idea was to draw my cat-girl hunter engaged in a battle with this beastie...perhaps I'll return to that idea. Thanks for commenting Anneke!

Very freaky shark, Jeff! Thank you for giving me another reason to not go swimming in the ocean! LOL I do love that background, though!! How, Jeff?? How? LOL Glad you like the shark Zamia...I don't think you'd want to around where she's swimming. 2 As for the background, well it was really an experiment of sorts, mainly getting some nice underwater colors and painting in light/dark zones to (try to) create an underwater look. I actually used two layers for the background - one for the full picture and a second one near the top for extra highlights. I hope that explains it...it's still not exactly what I envisioned but good enough for me. 2 Thanks for your comment!
