| 18 Oct 2004 | Dennis Drury | I think I like your colored pictures better than your B&W pics. You seem to have a knack for shading and using shadows; this quality is visible in the colored pics but not the B&W sketches. If I could offer a suggestion: try to pose the person in the scene the way that would be most natural for what is happening. For example, since it looks as if Amanon is pulling an arrow from his quiver to shoot it, his bow would be held with a bent arm to make nocking the arrow easy. It would not be held with a stiff arm at full extension from the body. Just nock and shoot an imaginary arrow with an imaginary bow; the arrow is first nocked and then the bow is drawn by both pulling back the arrow hand and extending the bow hand. Sometimes you don't need a model to pose for you; just go through the motion yourself, and you'll see how the natural pose would appear. Anyway, keep drawing! J. R. Bussell replies: "Thanks so much for the feedback. I do tend to pay *much* more attention to shading when using color, it does tend to demand it. But alas, using live models is a luxury which I sadly do not have more often than now--though my roommate has been very nice about positining her feet for the odd costume rendering that I have done. > " | |
