SciFi and Fantasy Art: HathorHathor isn't really depicted with a womans body, and a cows head, she can take the form of a cow... or a woman (she has horns as a woman), but i thought this was cool. Hathor is my favorite goddess of Egyptian mythology. The circle between her honrs represents the sun, she is the wife of Ra, if im not mistaken... but there are other beliefs as well. I'm an Egypt freak! there will be more where this came from... I'm thinking of drawing Bastet... any suggestions?

| 4 Feb 2003 | Erin Lee Lytle | OOoohh, VERY original! i love the form of her body, very nicely porportioned(bah! spelling!) | |
| 7 Feb 2003 | John Teall | Somebody actualy knows hator was what everybody seems to want to think bast was but wasn't - owing to our present day way of looking and cats i suppose - but even the most cursory encounter with what pases for popular erotica you'd think everyone - male anyway - would recognize the fittingness of the cow - well i always get a grin out of that thought anyway - though cats are indeed warmer and friendlier and more intelligent (which made them keepers of the hearth and domesticity). as for the wife of ra - wasn't that isis the healer? i seem to remember there being quite a story about her looking for his lost part to put him back togather with - simpler times spiritualty may have been a bit 'erthier' ... at least in its forms of expression - but its purposes has always been to try and keep everone from killing each other ... at the very least ... ok i ramble - this has a very in charicter feeling to it - it works on a lot of levels that i'm odly at a loss to express more clearly at the moment ... ~ Jennifer Michelle Kerr replies: "nope nope, Isis is one of the 2 wives of Osiris. I think Re (which is how you miht have gotten confused) is the brother of Osiris, he is the one who betrays Osiris. Haha, i was just watching a show about Egypt, and in order to keep the gods away from Pharoahs who are making their journey into the after world, they would insult the Gods, leave messages for them in heiroglyphs like "stay away Isis, the Goddess with no vagina!" hahaha, poor Isis." | |
| 8 Mar 2003 | Chloe Vincent | You know ure stuff but i hav recently visited egypt and i know to say 'you are a cow' in ancient egyptian time to a woman it would be a high compliment as cows were seen as very beautiful ..(in case you cant see why, eyes of cow- long eye lashes..)ahaaaa beaut picture | |
| 23 Apr 2003 | Sandra Leigh Wagner | actually, I've never seen Hathor depicted as anything BUT with a cow head... hmmm... wantng to know the name of your book! | |
| 1 Aug 2003 | Kristy | I love this picture of Hathor. I myself am an Egypt lover too and Hathor is also my favorite goddess. I love all your egyptian photos, you create them quite well. I hope you keep making more of her!! Jennifer Michelle Kerr replies: "It's funny you should mention that today because I just finished a new sketch of Hathor, i just don't know what medium I want to color her with." | |
| 4 Oct 2003 | Emilie Vollmar moonbeam78956@yah...com> | I have a most important request for a drawing. The drawing I would like to see by you is one of a Dragon with an Elfen girl on it's back. The dragon must be larger than the elf. Use whatever colors you like, but please, draw this picture for me! Your work is amazing! Jennifer Michelle Kerr replies: "im waaaay behind in my requests, but sometime i'd do it haha." | |
| 21 Nov 2003 | Banu | Actually, Hwt~Hrw/Hathor was occasionally depicted as a woman with the head of a cow- I've seen the statues. So no worries here! ^_^ You're right, though, that She was more commonly shown with a human head or in full cow-form.
Excellent work on this picture. I like the strong jawline on the cow head and the detail work at the hem of the skirt.
| 15 Dec 2003 | Beth 'vampyrhobbit' Stiner | I like this portrayal of Hathor better than your other one. I've seen statues of her in the part-cow/part-human form. Yes, she was the wife of Ra, as well as his daughter. Nice framing in the pic. | |
| 27 Jul 2007 | *Egypt Kitten* | Hathor is the consort of Horus. Hathor is not Bast, but Sekhmet turned into Bast. Hello has anyone got any idea who Ra is? sun god, king of the gods. Seth was evil brother who killed Osiris, isis was his wife and sister. nice picture though ^^ | |
