SciFi and Fantasy Art: The alchemist (coloured)

So, when I wrote that the previous one was a sketch... I am proud of this one. I had in mind those paintings with only very little light (Georges de la Tour, Le Nain...). I do NOT pretend reaching this kind of mastership, that's for sure, but I like the way it turned out. It's the first time I manage to do lights like that.

This was a drawing for Hong-Jie from the lab I have been working in this summer : I had the idea in my head for a while, but wen he asked me to do a drawing of the lab life, I could finally draw this. Good luck to you guys if you ever read that :)

Wow - I didn't expect to see new updates while you were in the United States. This is wonderful! The quality of light is far above your other work. You've really made progress. Tell the alchemist that he should be careful of the tse-tse flies... 2

:-) Jordi Landier replies: "Yeah... I didn't expect it either, but things turned out, it was very relaxing to draw in the evening, and there was a french post-doc in my lab who was also painting so we did a couple of sessions on weekends too. This one took maybe one or two weeks : one day for sketch and charcoal, and lots of evenings fir watercolour... Didn't see any fly during the internship, they keep the tryps in culture medium ! 2"

GYAHHHHHH.....
This is fantastic, the amount of color... I can't IMAGINE having this sort of patience, to go through and pick out so many details..... ......
Among other things, old faces are particularly difficult... but to compound that with the lighting..... this is amazing. Excellent work!

1 Jordi Landier replies: "*blushes with pride* Thanks a lot !!! It took me so long to paint... But I think understood a few things about watercolors doing it !"

This is a graet picture, although i find it kind disturbing how he's looking at us, rather than his work

:-) Jordi Landier replies: "Well... my idea was to make him look at the drops he is counting. But it could also be that he was disturbed, couldn't it ? 2"

It looks like he`s looking at me. ^_^ Nice work! Did the guys on the lab like it? I like the whole shadow and light thing you`ve tried to achieve. You should try yhat in oil! And I very much like the blue hat. Because I like the contrast between orange and blue.
