| 31 Mar 2004 | Natalia Nikitin | Wow! It's always good to see something interesting and original on Elfwood, and this picture is precisely that. I love the colours and the peaceful feel of this picture. One thing you could have done better is make the human figure stand out a bit more from the background with a *little* more light/dark contrast to enhance the outlines. Jordi Landier replies: "Thanks a lot ! I agree with you about the contrast. Though I didn't know what to do... I added the guy afterwards, because else it felt so empty in front of the trees. And he was first supposed to be a wounded warrior but then ended being a meditating pacifist... " | |
| 2 Apr 2004 | Keisha Lawrence | 'sup? Lol, sorry, i'm in class and like you, suffering with some gloriously boring teachers. Again, reiterating what other people above have said quite plainly: Beaut job on the originality. Never knew that legend, although i do remember learning about spontaneous generation in biology back in 9th grade... Soo long ago! Uhm uhmm.... Likewise with the color contrast (just b/c his outfit is red n the tree is brown). I would draw a picture with less focus on the tree in the center, n more on the fish n birds. Andand... What's that guy doin sittin there? ....... Eh. I'm being nitpicky. Don't mind me; it's beautiful! Jordi Landier replies: "Thanks ! Agreed again about contrasts, also about composition. But the purpose of this picture changed during making it, and then changed back : I first meant to draw this tree, wanted to add this wounded warrior, but then thought I could give it as a present (which I finally didn't do) so cancelled the warrior... He was supposed to be healing his wounds under the tree of life. In fact, the character sitting now can be the guardian of the tree. Maybe I'll do another version of this... I missed a lot of things !" | |
